Diesel Exhaust Fluid (DEF) is a mixture of 32.5% high purity urea and 67.5% deionized water that is used in Selective Catalytic Reduction (SCR) systems on 2010 and newer diesel engines. DEF is the primary ingredient used in the exhaust to help convert NOx to harmless nitrogen and water. DEF is stable, colorless, non-flammable, and non-toxic. DEF is classified as minimum risk during transportation.
DEF is a higher grade of urea and cleaner components than what is commonly used for agricultural liquid fertilizer.
Recommended storage between 12 and 90 F will give DEF a shelf life of approximately two years. DEF can freeze and thaw without hurting the integrity of the product. DEF needs to be stored inside out of sunlight and heated during the winter to be able to fill your vehicles.
DEF is a chemical and must be handled differently than fuels and/or lubricants. The purity of DEF must be maintained so that it will not harm your vehicles SCR system. Care must be taken regarding the materials of tanks, pumps, meters, hoses, and nozzles that will come into contact while storing and/or dispensing DEF. Stainless steel and certain types of plastics that are free of additives are approved. Do not use carbon steel, aluminum, copper, etc. These types of containers or fittings will leech into the product contaminating the DEF and causing failure in you SCR system. Eventually non-approved materials will fail creating a leak or rupture your storage system.

CCO has the answer for all of your DEF needs. We can deliver sealed totes, barrels or 2 ½ gallon jugs to your location. Our bulk DEF system uses dedicated tanks, pumps and meters, all dispensed through a closed 1 micron filtered system. When you have a Micromatic connection on your storage tank, CCO can fill your onsite bulk DEF tank with the same product integrity of our closed 1 micron filtered system through a state certified meter.
